Excellent!

Bought for my 2 mini schnauzers who are prone to pancreatitis (genetic), therefore requiring food with a low fat %. This has proved to be extremely palatable and has kept them in excellant condition.

Pricey but excellent quality, vigorously scoffed
Verified Purchase

I bought this food as I was searching on a dog food comparison website for a food with a high fibre content. My dog has suffered from constipation her entire life and needs an additional fibre supplement to keep her 'moving'. On this food, I am gradually phasing out the supplement and thus far, touch wood, she is still managing to toilet without difficulty. Whilst this food is not inexpensive, I believe it to be worth it as I can more easily control her calorie intake without the supplement, as she is a bit of a tubby, and it is still cheaper than buying her old brand plus supplement. Still early days but hopefully it will maintain her gut health without further additions. The quality of the ingredients also makes it worth the extra cost

The dogs love it

I try and feed my dogs natural food and treats, and this food ticks all the boxes. One of my dogs can have allergies but this food suits her. They both love it, and so do I as there’s not so much waste to clean up, if you know what I mean.

Q & A

Below are some recent questions we've received regarding Orijen Fit & Trim Dog Food, including answers from our team.

How is this good cooked

Jeanne

Is this food cooked/prepared under intense heat, that supposedly burns all the goodness out of the finished product??

  • VioVet Staff

Orijen uses an extrusion process in their Kitchen. This process cooks the food at 90-110°C, which is a high enough temperature to kill any harmful pathogens that may be present in raw meats (such as listeria or salmonella) while being at low enough temperatures to maintain the nutritional integrity of the ingredients.

Can i feed this diet to my 8 kilo old dog who can have flare ups of pancreatitis

  • VioVet Staff

It is recommended to give a low fat diet to dogs prone to pancreatitis. This diet has a fat content of 13% which is on the lower side but ideally you want very low with the condition, 7/8% or less.
Veterinary diets such as Royal Canin Low Fat Gastrointestinal or Hills I/D Low Fat are good choices. You should run using them past your vet though as they should only be used alongside veterinary advice.
