Oralade GI Support fluid
Verified Purchase

By Annette O'Rourke on 14 July 2026

I heard about this whilst attending a First Aid class for dogs. Due to the temp rising and a car journey I decided to get some, just in case my dog needed it. Gave it to him no side effects and I think it helped him over two very hot days.

Good standby

Recommended by a family member with experience of a dog with a sensitive digestion, I have bought this before and found it helpful to keep in the cupboard. I have found that we need a high quality low fat diet for the dog or he gets really ill, and he occasionally scarfs the wrong thing despite our best efforts. Whenever he has a couple of dodgy poops or goes off his food or has a tummy ache that doesn’t resolve in a day I open a bottle and give him a dose or two which is usually all we need. I freeze the rest in individual doses so as not to waste it. He doesn’t drink much water but always enjoys this, and I know he’s getting plenty of good fluids and important nutrients when he’s not quite feeling right. It works well mixed in with his prescription food or served separately. He usually takes a few tablespoons right away and leaves some for later. It‘s reassuring to have and convenient to take with us if away on a trip, just in case.

When Oralade GI used & when is Oralade Active used

Julie Oates

Hi Is Oralade GI for sick animals & the Active range for as & when after exercise?
We have a black Lab whom when it gets beyond 17C he often refuses to drink. We use all the methods available eg numerous water bowls around the house, a water fountain, AC, cooling vest, doggy iced desserts, cool mats, cooling neckers & cooling vest along with a doggy paddling pool, shade, & only going out for the toilet etc when its cooler.
Our Lab sometimes will drink the GI fluid as introduced by our vets & I often sigh with relief when we`ve deferred another trip to the vets .
BUT I`m not sure whether I should introduce the Active range as he runs raound a field for an hour each day with his doggy walker & dogs so I`m wondering if I should opt for a bottle of Active each day post run & if so can i give 1 bottle per day?
I`m concerned doing this I may put strain on his kidneys if used daily & whether the compounds eg. ? dextrose is going to be excessive renal wise or fattening.
Currently he has diluted goats milk but if he has it each day even diluted it can upset his stomach.
Thanks in advance

  • GI+

    • Ideal when he's ill, off his food, vomiting, or refusing to drink due to heat.

    • Safe for regular use during such episodes—especially as it’s low fat/protein and kidney‑gentle.

  • Active

    • Suitable to offer post-exercise to help recovery and hydration after his daily field runs.

    • Using one 250 ml bottle per day post-activity is reasonable.

Can You Use Oralade to Flavour Hypoallergenic Food

Andrew

Hi, my dog has been put on a hypoallergenic diet. This change of diet coincided with the prescription of Oralade by my vet. We have found that he will eat the hypoallergenic food with Oralade sprinkled on top, but will not eat it without the chicken flavoured Oralade. Can I use Oralade long term to make his food more appetising? Thanks.

  • VioVet Staff

Oralade is suitable to be used long term.

Oralade

mrs michele smith

Is this any good for a dog with constipation

  • VioVet Staff

If the constipation is related to a lack of fluid intake then yes Oralade GI Support may be beneficial. Depending on the cause of the constipation you may wish to use laxative products instead, such as Laxapet. It is important that you know it is constipation though and see your vet if you are unsure.

Diabetic dog

Dirk Dendauw

  • VioVet customer since 2016
  • From: Fife, United Kingdom

Is this product suitable for a 14 year old diabetic dog with heart murmur. She has wet food but hardly drinks additional water

  • VioVet Staff

Any change to the diet of a diabetic dog may change the insulin requirements. It is therefore only advised to use this alongside veterinary advice. It likely it will be safe however we cannot guarantee this, only your vet can advise for definite. I apologise we cannot be of much help.

Suitable for dogs with kidney disease?

Ella

Hi there,

I just wanted to know if this is safe to give dogs on a regular basis who have kidney disease? I can't seem to find the nutritional info for phosphorus levels etc.

Many thanks .

  • VioVet Staff

This depends on the severity of your dog's kidney disease. Diet is very important when controlling kidney issues and in some cases any change in diet can be a problem. It is advised to discuss this with your vet to be safe, only they will know of your dog's specific condition.

Any good for hot weather?

Sarah Nuttall

  • VioVet customer since 2016
  • From: Berkshire, United Kingdom

With the severe weather in place for extreme hot weather I was wondering if this would be suitable to add to my dogs fluid intake to prevent dehydration? I am already taking the usual steps of walking very early and very late when it is cooler, have cooling mats, fans on etc but they do not enjoy the hot weather and their appetite drops off so want to support them where I can. Many thanks

  • VioVet Staff

Oralade is a good choice as a brand for helping keep your dog hydrated in the hot weather. I recommend checking out Oralade Hydrate Plus if you are purchasing just with the heat in mind, the GI Support Fluid is more suited to intestinal issues such as diarrhoea.

When to dispose of the leftovers in a bowl

Natalie

  • VioVet customer since 2021
  • From: Surrey, United Kingdom

How long can it be left in a bowl for in this warm weather please? Thank you.

  • VioVet Staff

The storage requirements state:
Store in refrigerator after opening. Use the product within 3 days after opening.
This means you need to refidgerate it after opening, if any is left out in a bowl during warm weather then it is safest to throw this rather than refridgerate after being in the heat for an hour or so. I recommend approaching this similarly to food being left out in a bowl, try to only pour into your pet's bowl the amount they need to drink.

Dosage

Gina

Is oralade a one off treatment or what is the schedule/ dosage pattern? Thank you

  • VioVet Staff

The Oralade GI Support range is intended to aid recovery from intestinal issues. It aims to support hydration of the guts as well as the body in general. It is recommended for use until your pet has fully recoevered or dehydration is no longer a concern.
You should dose the product according to the feeding guide, I have pasted this below for your convenience. It may be that most of the water you lay down for your pet needs to be the Oralade GI liquid to ensure the complete amount is drunk as per the feeding guide.

Good for healthy dog

Toni

Can you give oralade to your dog as an energy booster, my dog isn't ill she has a little bit of a loose stool today & wondered if giving her some oaralade will help?? I didn't know if it was just something they have after an illness which is what she's had it for in the past!?
Thankyou.

  • VioVet Staff

Oralade GI Support is primarily intended for rehydration of the guts to improve recovery from intestinal issues like diarrhoea. If your dog has loose stools then it should help improve the condition. It does contains sugars/electrolytes so will provide some form of energy boost too.
If you are looking to solely firm up the stools rather than rehydrate your dog too then I recommend a product like ReguTum paste as these are more suited to stool firming.
